What is the Solanco Science Fair Project?
A science project is an investigation that employs the scientific method to answer a question related to the physical or biological sciences. Successful projects are ones in which a question/ problem is researched, and an experiment designed to test a hypothesis complete with controls and variables to validate the results.
An investigative project begins after a student formulates a question, researches background information, and states a hypothesis based on his or her research. The project progresses as the student designs an experiment to prove or disprove the hypothesis. This project should have variables that change while other variables remain constant (Independent and Dependent Variables). The data collected should be quantifiable. Data MUST consist of number measurements rather than subjective observations. Once data is collected it is analyzed and conclusions are drawn. The conclusions should either support or reject the original hypothesis. The grade will not depend on a correct or incorrect hypothesis. Rather it will reflect the quality of the research, experimentation and written summary.
